Real Madrid have signed Dutch right-back Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan. The Spanish giants activated his €20 million release clause. Dumfries has signed a four-year contract until June 2030. He becomes Carlo Ancelotti's first major signing of the summer.
Dumfries spent four successful seasons at Inter in Italy. He made 207 appearances across all competitions. He scored 27 goals during his time in Milan. He won eight major trophies with the Nerazzurri. Those included two Serie A titles and two Coppa Italia crowns. The 30-year-old has been a Netherlands international since 2018. He played at the 2022 World Cup and Euro 2024. His attacking runs down the right flank became his trademark. Inter signed him from PSV Eindhoven in 2021. He quickly established himself as one of Europe's best full-backs.
Real Madrid announced the deal in an official statement. Inter posted a farewell message thanking Dumfries for his service. The transfer fee was lower than his market value. Dumfries will compete with Lucas Vázquez for the right-back spot. He joins a squad that won La Liga last season. Ancelotti wanted defensive reinforcements after injuries last term. Dumfries will wear the number 22 shirt at the Bernabéu. He is expected to join pre-season training this week. Real Madrid are also targeting a new centre-back.
