Assistant Inspector-General Betty Otimeyin has assumed duty as the first female AIG of Police Zone 8. The command oversees Kogi and Kwara states from its headquarters in Lokoja. She issued a stern warning to criminals on her first day in office.
AIG Otimeyin resumed duty on Thursday, July 30, 2026, as the 34th commander of the zone. She previously served as Commissioner of Police in Edo, Rivers, and Taraba states. The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, deployed her based on her experience and exposure. She holds a degree in education from the old Bendel State University, Abraka Campus. Her appointment marks a historic milestone for the Nigeria Police Force.
The new AIG vowed to make the zone uncomfortable for bandits, kidnappers, and fraudsters. She pledged to re-strategize security operations with community-based policing and intelligence-driven tactics. She also directed Divisional Police Officers to intensify patrols around schools. Recent attacks on schools in Kogi State prompted the directive. She expressed confidence in Kogi State Commissioner Naziru Kankarofi and pledged to augment his efforts.
Otimeyin charged officers under her command to embrace discipline and dedication. She promised an open-door policy and urged residents to cooperate with security agencies. Thirty-five officers from the Kogi State Police Command received commendation awards for exceptional service. The awards recognized successful anti-banditry operations, rescue missions, and prosecution of offenders. The new AIG says her administration will treat everyone equally and fight all forms of crime.
