Troops of Operation Hadin Kai killed more than 18 terrorists and destroyed a logistics hub in an air-ground operation at Tumbunma Baba, in the Tumbuns general area of Borno State, in the early hours of Friday.
Acting Media Information Officer Captain Mohammed Goni said the operation followed weeks of intelligence gathering that identified the island community as a meeting and logistics point for high-profile terrorist elements.
Confirmatory surveillance conducted on September 9 pinpointed specific structures and logistics hubs in the area, validating the intelligence before the strike was authorised.
Air assets engaged the identified targets with precision munitions while ground troops of Sector 1 moved to block likely escape routes, preventing terrorists from fleeing the area.
Goni said the strikes destroyed the targeted structures and disrupted the enclave's use as a gathering and support base, with a post-operation assessment putting roughly 85 percent of the mission's objectives as achieved.
The operation is part of continued military efforts to restrict terrorist movement and access to the Lake Chad islands, where insurgent groups have used difficult-to-reach terrain to regroup and resupply. Independent casualty figures were not immediately available beyond the military's account.
